Town Hall With the Bishop

An opportunity to better understand an important event in the United Methodist Church will be provided at Webster Hills UMC later this month. Missouri Bishop Bob Farr will offer a presentation on the specially called session of the General Conference during a town hall meeting on Tuesday, October 9 at 7 p.m.

St. Louis will host the General Conference February 23-26. The primary work of the General Conference, a body made up of pastors and laity from across the globe, will be to act on recommendations from the Way Forward Commission. The Commission worked for two years to create resolutions that could significantly shape the future structure of our denomination.

Essentially, the Way Forward Commission and the specially called General Conference came about when members of the 2016 General Conference declared that differences regarding our theological understanding of homosexuality, same-gender marriage, and ordination of gay and lesbian clergy would never be resolved on the floor of the Conference. Instead, the question should become, “How do we now move into the future?”

Bishop Farr will offer insight into the resolutions that will come before the special session, answer questions, and provide topics for small group discussion. The event is open to all. Similar gatherings will be held at Wentzville UMC on Monday, October 8 at 7 p.m. and at Lafayette UMC in St. Louis on Tuesday, October 9 at 10 a.m.

Bishop Farr asks that you prepare to attend a conversation by becoming familiar with the resolutions beforehand. You can link to the commission reports and find a wealth of other resources on the Missouri Conference website.

All Church Work Day
We need all hands on deck for a good ole work day.  Saturday, September 9th, we’ll meet at 9am and spend a couple of hours cleaning inside the church and also pulling weeds and trimming the flower beds around the campus.  This will be the first of our new monthly weeding days that will take place on the second Saturday of each month from March to October to keep up with our grounds.  Bring some work gloves and clippers if you prefer to work outside. Parents, join us with your kids since this is a great task for little people. They are closer to the ground.
Email Kristin Lamprecht at klamprecht@sbcglobal.net for more information.
